About Julia
I have more than 25 years experience as a Speech and Language Therapist in both the NHS and the private sector in a variety of settings. In the NHS I worked with children with a wide range of communication difficulties arising from hearing impairment, neurological disability and developmental delay.
I now work purely in the private sector, focusing on working with children with speech and language delays and disorders. The best place to see children is in their own environment, at home, school or nursery so I am as flexible as possible. When they are comfortable and relaxed, we see them as they really are.
I provide tailored input for the child and support for the family. I like to make learning as fun as possible, using the child's interests and activities include their own toys, craft, singing- whatever motivates them and helps them to enjoy our sessions. If they are school-aged, I will link our sessions to what they are learning at school to make learning as seamless as possible.
I also have training in Dyslexia as there is so much crossover with speech and language.
Since having my own children, I have developed my work to reflect what I would look for as a parent and provide a Speech and Language Therapy service that is flexible, fits around family life and is tailored to each child.
The more I learn about children's communication, the more fascinating I find it!
