About Julia
After starting to learn about communication in my Psychology Degree, I then trained as a Speech and Language Therapist at City University, London, qualifying in 1994 and I now have over 30 years experience as a Speech and Language Therapist in both the NHS and the private sector in a variety of settings. In the NHS I worked with children with a wide range of communication difficulties arising from hearing impairment, neurological disability and developmental delay.
I now work purely in the private sector, focusing on working with children with a range of speech, language and communication needs. The best place to see children is in an environment where they are comfortable, at home, school or nursery, so I am as flexible as possible. When they are comfortable and relaxed, we see them as they really are.
I provide tailored support for the child and their family. I like to make learning as fun as possible, using the child's interests and activities include their own toys, craft, singing- whatever motivates them and helps them to enjoy our sessions. If they are school-aged, I will link our sessions to what they are learning at school.
I also have training in Dyslexia as there is so much crossover between speech, language and literacy.
My work reflects what I would look for as a parent, and provide a Speech and Language Therapy service that is flexible, fits around family life and is tailored to each child.
The more I learn about children's communication, the more fascinating I find it!
